Loading Heavy Equipment on a Gooseneck Flatbed

Loading heavy equipment on a gooseneck flatbed follows the same fundamental principles as any equipment trailer, with particular attention to weight distribution over the axles. The goal is to position the load so that roughly 60 percent of the cargo weight falls forward of the trailer's rear axle. That distribution maintains proper tongue weight on the gooseneck ball and keeps the trailer stable during transport.

For loading, ramps or a loading dock are required unless the equipment can drive on under its own power via a tilt section. Once the equipment is positioned, it should be secured with chains and binders at four points using the trailer's tie-down rails. Straps are generally not adequate for heavy machinery on a gooseneck rental, particularly for hauls on rougher Central Texas roads. After securing the load, confirm the gooseneck connection is fully seated and that all trailer lights are functioning before departure.
