Cargo Securement Rules for
Flat Bed Trailer Rentals in Texas
Texas Transportation Code requires all open-deck cargo to be secured against shifting or falling under normal road conditions. For flatbed trailer rentals, that means using an adequate number of tie-down points relative to load weight and ensuring strap or chain ratings meet or exceed the cargo being restrained. A single strap across a heavy load is not compliant and is not safe.
Checking tie-down tension after the first few miles is a useful habit — straps loosen as load weight settles onto the deck. A quick stop before reaching the highway adds little time and significantly reduces risk on higher-speed West Texas roads.
